Inhoud

In this PowerTalk, Ben Ashworth will present the ‘Athletic Shoulder Testing Framework’. This framework was designed to solve the problem of lack of objective data to guide decision-making around rehabilitation programming and implementation. It will be a highly practical orientated lecture with clinical representations. Practitioners will have the opportunity to explore specific components of shoulder testing, including tests of mobility work capacity force production and rate of force development using the test results.

Trials will inform the targeted conditioning for individuals recovering from surgery or injury and also healthy individuals aspiring to optimise their physical shoulder performance.

Leerdoelen

Through participating in the PowerTalk candidates will:

  • Receive a background of high tech and low tech test options with normal data based on evidence and our experience
  • Be able to set up targeted strength programmes for rotator cuff in healthy athletes
  • Have an understanding of in-season exercise programming for the overhead athlete
  • Be able to translate the content through the specific case examples and rehabilitation case studies that will be presented

Docent

Ben Ashworth

Ben Ashworth (UK) is lead physio and consultant for Athletic Shoulder. He works with teams and individuals to help solve shoulder performance problems. He has over two decades of experience as a practitioner with Masters in both Physiotherapy and Strength & Conditioning.

Ben’s interest & experience in shoulders developed from his time in professional rugby at London Wasps (2002-2005) and was accelerated through his work with the English Institute of Sport and his role in Team GB role at the Olympics in London 2012. The Athletic Shoulder testing & monitoring philosophy combines Ben’s shoulder expertise with over ten years of monitoring athletes in performance environments.

Ben is currently working towards completion of a PhD in the area of Shoulder performance monitoring at Liverpool Hope University, a center of excellence for upper limb and shoulder research (focussing on fatigue, return to play markers and neuromuscular profiling for performance). This is an extension of Ben’s recent published work around the now well established use of force platforms for shoulder testing developed at Saracens rugby and currently applied in baseball, tennis, rugby, MMA, Olympic & collegiate sports.
