Inhoud

There are multiple causes of groin pain in runners including musculoskeletal causes (hip pathologies such as OA, FAI Syndrome, adductor pathologies, osteitis pubis) and non- musculoskeletal causes (inguinal hernia, genito-urinary disease, etc). Due to the complex anatomy and multiple referral patterns from various sources, identification of source of symptoms can be very challenging for the therapist.

In this PowerTalk, a systematic and evidence-based approach will be discussed in approaching this complex region, including early identification of red flag pathologies such as stress fractures and malignancy. There will be detailed discussion on MSK pathologies including osteitis pubis, adductor-related groin pain and how to differentiate these from other causes such as FAI syndrome and sports hernia. An overview of management strategies of osteitis pubis and adductor related groin pain will be discussed along with progression of rehabilitation and return to running.

Leerdoelen

  • Approach and systematically assess groin pain in recreational runners
  • Identify Red Flags in the groin region and to rule out non-MSK pathologies such as hernias and uro-gynaecology conditions in the female runner.
  • Identify the clinical features and differentiate between osteitis pubis and sports hernia
  • Management Strategies of osteitis pubis and adductor-related groin pain in the recreational runner
  • Rehab Progression and Return to Running principles for the injured runner
